Balete, Philippines 2016-2018
Tangara School for Girls
Between 2016-2019, students from Tangara School for Girls had an ongoing relationship with Balete Family Farm School in Balete in the Batagas province. The projects were twofold, with a focus on relief and on development.
In December 2016, 17 student volunteers activities included in the two weeks; to provide development work by assisting in the refurbishment of the Farm School (painting of the exterior of the school building) as requested by the host school. Other activities included training health workers of the local village with hands-on training in First Aid skills and providing the students of the Farm School with computer-based training: resume-writing and graphic design.
In December 2017, 16 student volunteers activities included in the two weeks; relief work by visiting disadvantaged families in the nearby area to support the local community. Visiting orphanages and nursing homes in the nearby area, to support the local community. Visiting the public hospital in the city and working with e Cancer Warriors Foundation, providing support to 50 children from the local area suffering from cancer. Development work was to assist in the refurbishment of the Cesar Orona Elementary School (painting of the exterior of the school building, and basketball court and providing grills for safety) as requested by this primary school.
In October 2018, 15 volunteers undertook activities that included in the two weeks; building a school library and teaching Australian arts and crafts to students. They taught First Aid to students, the Balete community, and staff in the Balete Orphanage. Relief visits to the disadvantaged in the community (a nursing home, orphanages, Cancer Warriors, a hospital, and poor families.
