Implementing a project of Reledev, Creston College partnered with Foundation for Professional Training, Inc and Banilad Center for Professional Development (BCPD), Abigail Corbett worked on a medical and nutrition mission in Bohol with a group of thirteen young women from Australia. She spent two weeks in January 2019 on a service project in the Philippines. She shares with Reledev some valuable lessons learned like gratitude in the little things and spreading joy wherever you go.
What was your overall experience on the service project?
Extremely touching – I loved spending time with the young children and witnessing the joy on their faces. I also loved witnessing the spirit of generosity and the family-orientated, community centred nature of the Filipino people.
Did you have any particular expectations with the work involved?
To make an impact on the lives of the people in the local Bohol community through our construction/painting work as well as education and medical programs.
Tell us a bit about your highlights on the service project.
Being with the children in the orphanage and witnessing them come out of their shell.
Did you have any fears beforehand?
That we wouldn’t be able to communicate with the locals.
What were some of the lessons learned on the service project?
Spread joy where ever you go, and be grateful for everything you have in your life. Appreciate the little things.
Do you have any suggestions for any future service projects?
